Spinal
tuberculosis, even known as Pott’s disease, is a type of additional pulmonary
tuberculosis which affects one’s spine. It is scientifically known as
tubercular spondylitis. This generally affects the spine’s thoracic portion.
Tuberculosis of spine is seen due to the hematogenous
spread of the tuberculosis infection from many other parts, oftentimes
pulmonary. So, it is advised to consult a spine specialist if you experience
any sort of discomfort in your neck or back. And get the best tuberculosis of spine treatment.
Symptoms:
The
common symptoms of Tuberculosis of the spine are fever, back pain, loss of
appetite, paralysis, anorexia, clumsiness, imbalance, night sweats, and even
weight loss. Patients with spinal tuberculosis have chronic back pain that can
result in numbness, weakness or tingling in the legs. The ache in spinal cord
leads to deteriorated muscles and results in the patients to walk and sit in an
upright and rigid way.
Diagnosis:
Tuberculosis
of spine can be identified using several methods. After having any of the
symptoms, consult a spinal specialist without wasting time. The specialist
would test the motion range in one’s spine. Additionally, a number of
neurological exams will even be conducted and patient’s complete medical history
would be evaluated to know the actual reason behind developing spinal
tuberculosis. To ensure the prevalence of TB, your x-rays and blood tests can
also be taken. At times, bone scans and MRIs are necessary as well.
Treatment
of Spinal Tuberculosis:
The
treatment duration for each patient generally depends on different things such
as the age of a patient, seriousness of the pain, and also a response to treatment methods. With right
medicines, the patient is being prescribed complete bed rest to consume vitamin
supplements and limit much of physical work. For faster recovery, sometimes
patients are also suggested to do spinal exercises and a back brace is also
important for them.
